Alan Davidson is the Digital Economy Director at the Commerce Department and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Commerce where he is responsible for digital economy and Internet policy issues.
Davidson is a former Vice President and Director of New America’s Open Technology Institute and Public Policy Director for the Americas region at Google. He opened Google’s Washington office in 2005 and led policy and government relations efforts in North and South America.
Prior to joining Google, Alan was Associate Director of the Center for Democracy and Technology, a public interest group promoting 1civil liberties and human rights online. He has testified before Congress, written, and spoken widely on Internet policy issues including free expression, privacy, encryption, and copyright online. Alan has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in technology and policy from MIT, and is a graduate of the Yale Law School.
